RESTAURANTS
Phetchaburi is renowned for excellent street food – like that served at Phetchaburi Soi 5 or Pratunam Shopping Center, where you can sample delicious local fare from dozens of different market stalls. Don’t miss the traditional Thai-style chicken and rice. For organic produce fresh from the farm, try the much-loved Patom in the heart of Thonglor. Or if fine dining’s your thing, head to Maison de la Truffe Bangkok, where the menu – and even the dessert list – revolve around highly-prized truffles.
-
CAFÉS
The best of the bunch are the industrial-chic SNP Headquarter, or Chu Chocolate Bar & Café, which prides itself on exquisite chocolates. Alternatively, you could check out the oddly named It’s Happened to be a Closet café, where you’ll find coffee and cake alongside rails of retro fashion.
-
NIGHTLIFE
Night owls should head to Sukhumvit or the fashionable districts of Thong Lo and Ekamai for drinking and dancing – the Bar Upstairs is a local hotspot. Or there’s always fun to be had at RCA (Royal City Avenue) – an arcade of popular nightclubs, such as Club Route 66.
-
LIFESTYLE
If you’re a fan of opera or classical music, keep an eye on what’s happening at the Thailand Cultural Center – they put on a great programme of events and play host to plenty of big-name orchestras. Art-lovers should head to Koi Gallery, whilst theatre buffs may enjoy the performances at M Thai Theater and Muang Thai Rachadalai Theater. Or if you prefer your drama on the sports field, check out the Racquet Club on Sukhumvit 49, where you’ll find fantastic indoor and outdoor sporting facilities, as well as the best climbing walls in town.
