Another popular haunt for pool-players and sports fans is Paradiso Sports Bar, which shows major matches on its big screen and gets particularly lively at weekends. For something more upmarket, try Oak Wine Valley right on Sukhumvit 50 – its wine selection is sure to please any palette.

Sukhumvit 50 is home to the five-storey Jim Thompson Factory Outlet, where you can buy cut-price fabrics from the leading purveyor of Thai silk. There are also three shopping malls, where you can browse the latest fashions, grab a bite to eat or simply hang out with friends. Century The Movie Plaza is the newest of them all, Habito combines shops with a busy co-working space, and the Phyll Sukhumvit 54 mall even boasts a Thai boxing school, which is very popular with locals and ex-pats alike.
The neighbourhood has two well-regarded hospitals, suitable for all your medical needs – Kluaynamthai Hospital and Sukhumvit Hospital.
There’s an outpost of Wells International School in Sukhumvit 50, as well as St. Andrews International School and Bangkok Prep – two of the best international schools in the whole of Thailand. Just down the road, Bangkok University has an impressive international program on offer.
You can travel the length of Sukhumvit – and beyond – on the BTS Skytrain from On Nut station. But if you’d prefer to travel by car or taxi, there are several nearby expressways – including the Chalerm Maha Nakorn expressway, which connects you to the port, Rama 3 and Rama 4.
